As 2011 is almost at an end we took a look back at which posts have been most popular on Never Ending Voyage this year. Our most popular posts from 2010 are still going strong and worth a look as early on we shared useful tips on getting started as long term travellers or digital nomads including advice on selling everything you own, saving for travel and packing light.
In the past four years we have spent a year travelling around the world, returned to the UK and taken short trips to Seville and Italy, spent six months working on a music career (Simon), and then set off again 20 months ago to travel indefinitely. How did we manage to afford all this on below average UK salaries? We changed our mindset about stuff, and saved really really hard. We made sacrifices and prioritised travel and living the life we dreamed of.
Technology makes our digital nomad life possible. Without it we wouldn’t have been able to spend the last 18 months travelling around the world while running a web design and development business.
These are the products and resources that we use to live and work from anywhere in the world. They aren’t all essential but they do make our lives a lot easier.
People who hear that we plan to travel forever sometimes ask us if we’ll run out of places to visit. Now we can point them to Wanderlust’s list of 100 Greatest Travel Experiences. The British travel magazine asked readers to vote on what they consider the ultimate travel experiences, as travel is more about the experiences you have in a place than the country itself.
You can’t deny the importance of video. It’s the fastest growing medium on the internet (Netflix is now bigger than BitTorrent) and people love it – it’s easy to watch and relate to, entertaining and quicker to engage people than a page of text. For bloggers it has the additional benefit of having less competition in the search engines making it easier to get noticed.
