On Simon’s birthday this week we rode our moped up the winding Doi Suthep mountain road to visit the Buddhist temple Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. We were struck by how glitzy the Thai temple was compared to the temples in Japan, and although the crowds and souvenir stands didn’t create a serene atmosphere we enjoyed wandering around and admiring the shimmering gold chedis (stupas) and Buddha statues. It’s a beautiful wat and the views down to Chiang Mai alone make it worth the visit.
