Simon was nervous about riding a moped in Chiang Mai’s traffic but as soon as we rented a bike he loved the sense of freedom. It’s a great way to zip around the city and we feel very Thai, especially when ignoring road rules (everyone does). Most of the time we can avoid traffic queues by weaving in and out of the cars and heading to the front. At busy times like this though a queue of mopeds had formed between the cars and we had to wait patiently behind these soldiers.

I have a great picture I took in Chang Mai of a older teen boy driving a scooter with two younger siblings sitting in front of him and one or two sitting behind him as he zipped in and out of traffic. Here in Istanbul scooters are used for delivery – and the drivers are all young men who think they cannot die. Crazy.
That sounds about right! I kind of love the craziness 🙂
NatGeo pix in the making. Good job!
Thanks guys!
Traffic rules are for the WEAK! Man, that photo says: Crowded. I would be scared to rent too but I’m glad you guys got out and into the freedom it allowed!
Simon was scared at first but as soon as he got on the bike he loved it. Luckily it isn’t always that crowded -that’s rush hour.
Such an awesome capture!
Glad to see that you are wearing a helmet!!
;-))
Of course!
