  1. I had seen a performance for the first time at Varkala, soon after having seen the make-up and costume happen. Sitting there, I had wondered too, which enactment was more difficult for the artists – the dance or the make-up. It had brought back memories of a film by the director – Adoor Gopalakrishnan about the Kathakali artist ‘Kalamandalam Raman Kutty Nair’. It was a beautiful film.

    • They are amazingly graceful and have such stamina. Just getting ready with the make up and costumes take hours and then the performances go on all night! We definitely recommend India anyway.

  2. This definitely makes me miss Cochin!! That Kathkali performance was an absolute highlight of my visit…and I’m always surprised at how many people give this a miss during their India travels.

I’d go again if I ever made it back to South India!

    • We’ve been missing India lately too. I think it’s the lack of spicy food in Argentina! Kathkali is a definite highlight – it’s so stunning. We haven’t seen anything else like it.
