Photo of the Week: Gourmet Vegetarian at The Gate, London image

We recently celebrated 12 years together by treating ourselves to  lunch at the upmarket vegetarian restaurant The Gate, hidden away in a church in Hammersmith, London.

To keep costs down we shared the mezze platter to go along with our rasberry bellinis. It was plenty of food for lunch and everything was fresh, unique and delicious. With the platter you get to sample most of the starters so it’s great if you can’t decide what to order.

The platter included cous cous cakes with grilled aubergine in a broad bean and pomegranate salsa; roasted beetroot, hazelnut and goats cheese salad; three onion tart; wasabi potato cake with seaweed salsa; soba noodle salad; and grilled asparagus with polenta. All were amazing and we were so happy to find such unusual tasty vegetarian food.

  1. That looks delicious, Si. They should pay you to advertise for them. Thanks for letting us know about it – it was wonderful!

  2. I ate at the Gate for the first time about three weeks. Ago, the food was great, outstanding infact, but i thought the restauarant itself was a bit tired and given that I went in for lunch and the main courses were £14 it annoyed me slightly. Its def worth eating in, but I have eaten veggies food in London restaurants that are just as good and cheaper. Manna in Chalk farm is great if you are looking for a veggie/vegan alternative.

  3. First of all – congratulations to your 12 years anniversary! The Gate is a fabulous place to celebrate this special occasion. There is also a vegetarian Southern Indian restaurant in Hammersmith which we L O V E. Just thinking about it gets us excited for India :-)

    • Thanks! Of course we should have asked you for recommendations – I spent ages trying to decide where to eat. Mmm, Indian food… You are going to LOVE it.

  4. That looks amazing!! One of the nicest surprises when I was last in London was going to a pub with a friend of mine and finding that, not only did they have a number of vegetarian options on the menu, but that the Sunday dinner special was a vegetarian nut roast :)

    • Although traditional British food is not at all veggie friendly, the UK is actually one of the better places in the world for vegetarians, especially London. You’ll always find veggie options.
