We have been surprised by how many women we have seen wearing kimono in Kyoto. Sometimes they are Japanese tourists who have hired them to wear while sightseeing and eating out in the traditional neighbourhoods, but there are a small number we’ve seen in train stations and on the streets that seem to be wearing them as their usual attire.
They aren’t usually as colourful as this kimono though, which is worn by a model at the Nishijin Textile Center’s free kimono fashion show.
