We arrived in Miami exhausted after a nine hour flight and Simon had a migraine coming on. All we wanted was to collapse into bed so we were lucky to have the quickest check-in ever at our apartment hotel Chic Place at Lincoln: no check-in at all.
We love staying in apartments but one of the downsides can be arranging with the owner to let you in and waiting on the doorstep after a long flight is not ideal. Chic Place has solved this problem by using door codes instead of keys. We were sent the codes in advance and were able to gain access to the garden and to our apartment very quickly—just what we needed.
There are nine apartments at Chic Place in a modern art deco building surrounded by gardens, combining the style of a boutique hotel with the facilities of an apartment.
Each apartment is individually designed with vintage furnishings, lots of quirky details, and artwork, rugs and lamps to give them a homely feel. We loved our colourful stripy rug, the surfboard coffee table and the random horse head in the corner.
The furnishings may be vintage but the apartments are high tech with the fastest WiFi we’ve ever had, an iPod dock, and a massive 42” flat screen TV. The TV is so well concealed in a decorative case that on my first bleary eyed morning I asked Simon “what’s this weird dark mirror?”, much to his amusement. Ahem. We don’t usually have TVs that big. Oh and if one wasn’t enough there’s also a TV on the ceiling above the bed!
In our studio apartment the living room leads into the bedroom, dining and kitchen area. Although the bed was a bit too near the kitchen for us, a partial wall gives the bedroom privacy from the living area. The bed is super comfortable with wonderfully soft sheets—dragging ourselves out of bed was tough. The modern bathroom is just off the bedroom with a good hot shower.
Although the kitchen is small it’s well equipped and like the rest of the apartment, spotlessly clean and new. We particularly appreciated the washer/dryer.
Unlike many apartment rentals there’s free room cleaning every week day if you choose.
South Beach is known for its party scene but not wanting to be kept up all night we loved Chic Place’s location in a quiet residential area but only half a block from bustling Lincoln Road, a pedestrianised street famous for its shops, cafes, restaurants and most of all: people watching.
Our main reason for stopping in Miami on our way to Mexico was to pick up a new Macbook Retina for Simon, and happily the Apple store was just around the corner. There’s a theatre and cinema a few minutes walk away, and we loved the Sunday farmer’s market on Lincoln Road.
It’s easy to walk everywhere in South Beach. The beach and art deco Ocean Drive are about 15 minutes walk away. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby and the nearest supermarket is Whole Foods. Eating out is pricey in the area so we were glad we could cook some meals ourselves.

Chic Place at Lincoln is the best of both worlds combining a stylish boutique hotel with the space and facilities of an apartment, and the character of vintage design with the convenience of modern technology. If you want to live in Miami, not just stay there, Chic Place is ideal.
