Career Break Secrets Video Travel Guides Review

We are big supporters of the idea of career breaks – in fact it was our own year-long career break that led to our life changing decision to quit our jobs, sell everything we own and travel forever. Although not everyone will want to travel indefinitely, I don’t think there’s anyone who wouldn’t benefit from a break from their normal routine and having the opportunity to travel.

Career breaks come in many forms but can be most rewarding when they are focused around your own interests – you may want to volunteer, learn a new skill or language or just immerse yourself in a new culture.

Leaving your old life behind to travel can be daunting, especially if you have never travelled long term before. This is where the new video travel guide series by Career Break Secrets come in. They have produced 18 high quality video episodes full of advice and inspiration to help you plan your career break. They aim to show you the possibilities for your trip and exactly how to make it a reality.

I admit I was a little dubious at first about the idea of paying for travel videos, but I quickly realised how professional and comprehensive the series is. Obviously a lot of work has gone into them and I was impressed by the high quality of every aspect – the HD filming, the music, graphics and Jeff’s friendly presentation.

The videos focus on activities that a career breaker might be interested in – learning a new skill (languages, cooking, sailing), volunteering and exploring a country in interesting ways (such as walking Spain’s Camino de Santiago). You get an in-depth look at exactly what the activity involves, interviews with locals and other career breakers, and tips on how to organise and make the most of your experience.

The videos are very detailed and would be ideal for people planning a career break – maybe if you are a bit nervous and would like to know what to expect, or if you are just looking for inspiration of things you could do. I found the video about volunteering with monkeys in South Africa fascinating and was fully expecting it to be a pay to volunteer experience – but amazingly it was free and volunteers even get food and accommodation. It isn’t easy to find information about opportunities like these.

The first season includes 18 episodes and covers Spain, South Africa, New Zealand, Patagonia and Colombia. You can buy the complete season for $49.99 or just one country for $17.99. Visit Career Break Secrets for more information.

Disclaimer: we were given review copies of the video travel guides.
